Prof Valsamma Eapen

Head, Academic Unit of Child Psychiatry, South West Sydney Chair, Infant Child and Adolescent Psychi

The unit undertakes research projects and service delivery in the area of a range of child mental health disorders, particularly involving neurodevelopmental disorders. This includes a project on the genetics of Tourette Syndrome; genetic and phenotypic characteristics as well as early identification and intervention in developmental disorders including autism. Other areas of interest include biological underpinnings including the role of oxytocin in attachment and separation anxiety, maternal distress and mental health in the perinatal period including the issues for fathers as well as metabolic syndrome following antipsychotic use in young mentally ill patients.
